When you head out to showrooms to look for your new sofa, you can be hit with all kinds of questions about the kind of thing you're after and if you don't know the answers you can easily end up being persuaded to buy a sofa you're not sure about. To avoid this catastrophe, here is the knowledge you need.

Before you visit any sofa companies, complete the following list of instructions. Write down the measurements of both the room your sofa is going to be in and the position you've set aside for your the sofa. You might even consider quickly doing a crude sketch of the room so you have a visual aid when trying to explain your ideas to the people at the sofa company.

This might sound silly, but also measure your doors and windows to the room your sofa will be in. This is done simply to make sure you can physically get your new sofa into the room without damaging either your house or the sofa. So many people buy a sofa without actually considering how they're going to get it into the room and end up with huge problems when it is delivered.

A great thing to get hold of is a colour card so you can get samples of the other colours you have in your living area and match them against sofas you're interested in to get an idea of how well it will work in the space you have in mind.

Once you're at the sofa showroom ask as many questions as you can about the materials, the design, the ordering and the delivery process. If you don't get the answers you want there and then ask them to find out and get back to you. Its best to know absolutely everything about the sofa before you make any investment.

Make sure you sit on as many of the sofas as possible to get a good idea of what you find most comfortable. Don't just visit one showroom either, look around and get a good idea of what the best prices and offers available are. Go online and look at specialist sofa websites. Print off any information you find on special offer and take it to every showroom you visit so they can price match and offer equally good deals.

These are just a few tips on buying sofas but should give you an idea about the amount of time and effort you should be investing in the choice.
